Surging Waters, Immovable God

Updated: Oct 12, 2023

What a perfect Psalm for the Lord’s Day, for it amplifies that God is the King of the universe which he created and the forces of this world that would challenge his kingship in hostility toward him are simply no more than surging waters against his immovable throne.

And that is the key here, for in this Psalm, surging waters in fact symbolize those very forces of evil and hostility arrayed against him to destroy his creation and all that is good made by God. Yet they are pursuing a futile plan against this majestic God of ours, for he is truly above them in every respect, including his perfect holiness and omnipotence in all things.[i]

And this is the God you serve and worship today, this morning, the day he has made. Whatever it is that is like a surging sea coming up against you, he is reliable in all things and can be trusted to defend his people.

No matter what.

****************************

1 The Lord reigns! He is robed in majesty, the Lord is robed, he wears strength around his waist. Indeed, the world is established, it cannot be moved. 2 Your throne has been secure from ancient times; you have always been king. 3 The waves roar, O Lord, the waves roar, the waves roar and crash. 4 Above the sound of the surging water, and the mighty waves of the sea, the Lord sits enthroned in majesty. 5 The rules you set down are completely reliable. Holiness aptly adorns your house, O Lord, forever.

We can come to know Christ through confession of our sins and repentance (turning away from sin). Let me encourage you to do this by talking to God through prayer. Here is an idea of how you might do that: "Dear God, I believe your son Jesus Christ died in my place on the cross and rose from the dead on the third day following his death. I confess my sins, all of them, to you now with a humble heart. I repent of those sins and ask you to empower me with your Holy Spirit in overcoming further sin. Amen”

If you prayed this or a similar prayer committing your life to Christ and becoming one of his followers, let me encourage you to find a good, Bible-believing church. If you live in the Weslaco/Rio Grand Valley area of Texas, let me invite you to the church I attend, Mid-Valley Assembly (www.midvalleyassembly.com). Begin talking to God in prayer and reading the Bible daily. A good way to begin to read the Bible is to start with the Book of John in the New Testament. Feel very free in connecting with me if you need any further help in your walk with the Lord Jesus Christ. You can do this via the above email or facebook page or this web page. _________________________________________________________________________________ Mercy Road Ministries was founded and now led by Ben Bounds.
