The Evidence for Your Faith

Updated: Oct 17, 2019

A few years ago I noticed a common mantra in our society that goes like this, “Faith is believing something in spite of the evidence.”

Of course, nothing could be further from the truth from a biblical standpoint. We should be able to adequately explain to anyone the reasons for our faith and support that with evidence.

Peter tells us as much, “But set Christ apart as Lord in your hearts and always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks about the hope you possess. Yet do it with courtesy and respect (1 Peter 3:15–16).”

As one begins to look at the events surrounding the resurrection of Jesus Christ, they find that the literal evidence from a legal, medical, and empirical standpoint demonstrating the veracity of the truth of the claims of the followers of the Lord and the actual, real resurrection from the dead by Jesus Christ takes the breath away.

Many people fear the prospect of having to defend their reasons for believing in Christ. What I have found over the years in my own personal life is that, in fact, we don’t have to fear, but we can have an excitement and confidence as we share the account of Christ. The person that follows the biblical account will be overwhelmed with the sheer power of the evidence in plain sight that will not only demonstrate the wonderful reality of the resurrection and all the events surrounding it, but they also will find that these same facts strengthen their own faith in Christ exponentially.

That is why we can be ready to talk confidently about our faith―because it is provable and demonstrable.

And that makes it very easy to share our faith with “courtesy and respect,” which is the best and most effective way to do it anyway.
